A quiet and tranquil province, Nan is made up of many districts, all of which give a nostalgic and un-spoilt idea of what rural Thailand travel was once like. The provincial capital, Nan, is a small city some 668 km north of Bangkok, set into a lush valley some 320kms east of Chiang Mai. Most travellers heading to the north of Thailand travel straight to Chiang Mai or Chaing Rai, but with a little effort you will be rewarded with a town offering considerable charm. A little remote set out to the east of the north, Nan is very little visited by tourists but it was designated a tourist development area for its historical hybrid temples and stunning mountainous countryside. The old heart of the city, where many of the tourist attractions are located, is being attractively restored to increase the image of this town to tourists.

Once the main commercial, administrative, educational and hospital center of the province, Nan is now trying to entice more tourists to this beautiful part of Thailand. Home to the Thai Lue and other hill tribes, you can now find many local textiles for sale showing the traditional floral, geometric and animal designs in the red and black cotton fabrics. These textiles as well as local Mein embroidery and Hmong crafts are usually of far better quality as they are or mass produce like those found n Chiang Mai.

Getting To Nan

You can fly to Nan from Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phitsanoluk on several days of the week and the journey time is anything from 45mins – 1hr 30mins. There are daily buses from Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Chinag Rai that can take anything up to 10-13hrs but are far more economical and scenic than flying. One word of warning though is the road journey is very mountainous and can provide an uncomfortable journey, scenic or not! There is no direct train line to Nan with the closest train station at Den Chai, a three hour drive away, in the neighboring province.

Things to Do in Nan

The main attractions in Nan, other than the tranquil and untouched Thailand qualities, are the Nan National Museum and the Phrathat Chae Haeng Pagoda. If you plan on Thailand travel during October, then make sure you don’t miss the Nan Provincial Boat Race which is the main event of the Provincial Fair during late October.

Only 22km south-east of Chiang Mai on route 106, often called the Old Chiang Mai Road, Lamphun is famed for hand-woven silk, two ancient temples, its beautiful women and its production of the sweetest logan fruit (lam yai). This is the smallest province in the north of Amazing Thailand and being situated inland away from the sea, it has the longest drought or dry season usually about 6 months. The climate is typical for this area with 3 seasons dividing the year. The hot seasonof any Thailand travel is usually between March and April, the rainy season from May to October and the cool season from November to February.

Things to do in Lamphun

Over shadowed by the tourists in Chiang Mai, Lamphun is usually visited as a half day tour or as part of a full day tour of their Thailand travels, taking in other sights south of Chinag Mai. Lamphun does however come alive during the Longan festival, which takes place each August. During this time floats are paraded along the streets, drum beating competitions and the local beauty competitions take place.

During your half day Lamphun trips you should try and get to see Wat Phra That Haripunchai and the bell-shaped, 51 m high golden Chedi, an enormous bronze gong (said to be the largest in the world, but this has been disputed) and the beautiful ordination hall, or Bot, although this is often closed. Wat Kukut is a second Wat you should consider visiting if you have time. It’s on the opposite side of town to the previous Wat and should take about 30mins walk. It gives you a chance to view the rest of the town as you wander there.

Getting To Lamphun

Situated so close to Chiang Mai, Lamphun doesn’t have much in the way of accommodation for the Thailand traveller. Travel usually involves a trip along route 106 and back to Chiang Mai.

Amazing Thailand Travel Guide To Hua Hin

Hua Hin is Thailand’s oldest beach resort which used to be little more overgrown fishing village with one exceptional, The Grand Hotel. The main and most popular visitor to Hua Hin was the Thai Royal family around the turn of the century, who had their own summer place built on the north end of the beach. Thailand’s Royal family still visits their summer palace each year and you’ll know when they are in town because of the large hand painted billboard portraits of the King and Queen and all the shops hanging national flags outside, a truely wonderful sight of your Thailand travel. The beaches of Hua Hin still remain very popular with Thai people who take holidays in their own country and would like to avoid the tourists packed beaches of Phuket and Pattaya. Unfortunately for the local Thai people, but fortunate for us tourists, the secret of Hua Hin is no out.

Things to do in Hua Hin

The beaches of Hua Hin at the main attraction to many tourists who would like to avoid the sleaziness of Pattaya, or the overcrowded beaches of Phuket. Situated at the North West of the Gulf of Thailand it has become a suitable place to learn or practice watersports such as windsurfing, kite surfing and in some cases even sailing. You may want to also take a visit to, what was once called the Railway Hotel, but know the Hotel Central Hua Hin. This hotel still remains in the classical colonial style architecture with cool high ceilings, heavy bladed ceiling fans, polished wood panelling and wide seaview balconies, just like it was 90 years ago. This hotel was also used in the filming of the movie the killing fields for which the hotel added the swimming pools and tennis courts.

Getting to Hua Hin

There are daily flights from Bangkok to Hua Hin which takes only 30 minutes however the airport is some 10 km north of the city. There are many taxis or other means of transport that will take you to town and some hotels in the area will actually provide free airport transfer. Buses from Bangkok’s southern terminal will take 3 1/2 hours with a train journey taking not much longer.

The province of Nong Khai is a long and narrow province skirting the south bank of the Mekong for some 300km separating Thailand from Laos. The region has had a long history of contact with French and Laos and this is often reflected in the cuisine and local temples found in the province of Nong Khai. The town of Nong Khai, occupies a strategic position at the end of Highway 2 and the north-eastern Railway just 24km away. This border town, once a backwater town, now acts as a conduit for goods bought and sold by Thais and Loatians although plenty of trade went on quite happily, even if illegally, before it became a bit of a tourist town.

Like most of the towns in the north east Thailand travel to these areas is best when you understand the thing to do in Nong Khai is just to take it easy, enjoy the riverside atmosphere and peaceful settings and good value of guesthouse and hotels in the area. Before lapsing into relaxation coma however you should try joining an evening river trip or even make a day trip out to see the sculpture’s crop formations in the surrounding countryside. Nong Khai makes a pleasant place to spend a few hours sitting in one of the numerous restaurants along the main street of town, sipping a cold beer and watching the river.

Things to do in Nong Khai

Generally speaking the main purpose for visiting Nong Khai is for a trip across the board into Laos. Nong Khai is only one of six crossings open to non-Thai foreigners along the borders and although you will generally have sorted your visas in Bangkok it is possible to still arrange one in Nong Khai.

Getting to Nong Khai

From Bangkok you will mostly likely be coming by train arriving just after dawn at the station some 2 km west of the city centre. Day buses from all points around Isarn reaching connect Nong Khai to all other major towns and buses from a little further afield will arrive at the terminal on the east side of the town.

Amazing Thailand Travel Guide to Lopburi

Around 155 km north of Bangkok stands Lopburi, are very important town during the 11th and 12th centuries when much of central Thailand was part of the Khmer empire centred in Angkor, making Lopburi a regional capital. When Siam became Thai, with Ayutthaya as the capital, Lopburi soon became the Kingdom of Thailand’s second most important city.

The centre of Lopburi oldtown sits on an egg shaped island between canal’s and the Lopburi River with the train line running across it from north to south. The new town of Lopburi has very little to see you so visits to this area should concentrate on obtaining a Hotel in the old town.

Things to do

Although seemingly a large town Lopburi’s historical sites can be visited on foot in one-day. Situated near the town’s railway station in the centre of Lopburi, Wat Phra Si Mahathat houses an impressive centrepiece of Khmer style laterite prang, or pagoda. A few streets west and you come upon King Narai’s Palace, Wat Narai Ratchaniwet, probably the most visited the Wat in Lopburi. There is an outstanding museum in the central courtyard of this palace that is well worth a visit as well as some beautiful lush green relaxing spots within the grounds. Other things to do while visiting Lopburi could include a visit to the Thai classical music and dance college in the new town to spend a few hours away from it all you could try a small zoo to the north-east of the town.

Getting there

Getting to Lopburi from most of the central region of Thailand relatively easy, from Bangkok buses leave every 20 minutes from the North bus terminal and take and three hours, from Ayutthaya the bus journey is only one half hours. There is an hourly train from Bangkok which takes two after three hours and regular trains from Ayutthaya which take only an hour.

All information you need about Thailand Travel can be found on these pages. Thailand attractions, Thailand hotels, Thailand resorts, Thailand nightlife, Thailand travel tips, Thailand destination guides, Thailand tours packages and holidays to Thailand.

Thailand can boast about having one of the world’s most popular cuisines, as well as some of the most beautiful Thailand beaches. You’ll find deserted islands and long white sandy beaches in Thailand along with some of the friendliest and welcoming people on the planet. Located in the heart of Asia, Thailand has warm weather almost all year round right across the Kingdom. It is probably most known for its cheap prices for clothes, watches, jewelry in cast shopping in Thailand for most things will be cheaper than other holiday destinations.

As a holiday to Thailand is often considered a luxury or a long haul destination, it’s no surprise that many people cram in as much as possible to do while on holiday to Thailand. Brightly colored temples, enchanting traditional dance shows and shopping in Bangkok is just some of the things to do to fill your day. Thailand Travel has been captivating foreign visitors for decades and the number of foreign visitors to Thailand continues to increase year after year. Many first time visits to Thailand will often become return holiday makers, who enjoy the exotic culture Thailand travel has to offer. The most exotic South East Asia destination, Thailand offers backpackers, travelers and holidaymakers a huge range of different Thailand vacations.

In North Thailand travelers can visit Ancient towns flanked by tree lined mountains and golden roofs of ancient temples. Home to many ethnic minorities who still retain their own traditions, dialect and national dress, visitors can get a glimpse into these rare and disappearing hill tribes in Thailand. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are the two most visited towns in north Thailand but with some many tourists venturing this far north many other satellite towns are growing and ready to welcome you with a wai and a smile. Chiang Mai and to a lesser extent Chiang Rai serve as good base towns to explore the beautiful hill temples and surrounding mountains as well as undertaking a hill trekking trip.

In southern Thailand travel is not so easy with restricted train lines but this doesn’t mean hordes of tourists still flock there. With its miles and miles of unseen Thailand beaches it’s still quite possible to find a pristine stretch of beautiful white sand beach that you can have all to yourself. The west coast of Thailand provides us with tourist destinations like Phuket, sophisticated and well developed for every type of holiday, from luxury hotels on private beaches to backpacker inn’s near Patong Beach. Whatever you want from a holiday, peace and quiet or music and action, Phuket will have it in abundance for you. Other popular Thailand travel destinations on the south west coast include Krabi and Ko Lak, both perfect Thailand destinations for a family holiday with beautiful white sandy beaches. Krabi will also provide dramatic limestone scenery considered some of the best climbing spots in Thailand and not to be out down Ko Lak is on the door step of the Khao Sok National Park as well as the closest jump off point to visit the Similan Islands. Ko Lanta and Phi Phi are two of the most popular for Thailand travel but there are many more small non or less touristic islands such as Ko Jum, Ko Sriboya, Ko Sukon, Ko Sarai (Tarutao Island) to name a few. The east coast of southern Thailand is home to the Gulf of Thailand and some very impressive travel destinations. The most popular island in the Gulf of Thailand is Ko Samui (often spelt Koh Samui or Kosamui or even Kohsamui). Nicknamed Honeymoon Island offers Thailand travel with class and style and an over exuberant amount of luxury, just the thing for newlyweds. In contrast the nearby Koh Phangan is still comparatively basic and budget travelers enjoy the peace and quiet of what, at times, resembles paradise Further east in the Gulf of Thailand, very near to Cambodia, Koh Chang is gaining in popularity. It wasn’t so long ago that this largely unknown island didn’t have a structured road, only jungle tracks, but now with more people finding it Koh Chang hotels have been quick to develop. Love it or hate it Pattaya is defiantly a beach resort with attitude. Often given bad press Pattaya has done a lot in the past few years and is now become a popular destination not for the Thailand sex tourists but families and water sports enthusiasts.

Whatever your passion is in Thailand travel around the country will provide some amazing Thailand adventures. Whether you want spa holidays with lazing on a beach, adrenaline filed adventure holidays hanging from cliffs, scuba diving holidays dive from liveaboard’s, city holidays, mountain holidays, luxury holidays backpacking trips everything you want can be found with Amazing Thailand Travel.

Regardless how long you intend to be in Thailand travel to the northern regions is a must for families, backpackers and those seeking thrills and adventure in Thailand. Amazing Thailand has lots to offer but the north, with its leafy jungles, fast flowing rivers and ethnic hill tribes offers something a little unusual in Thailand. Travel in the north will be rewarding at any time of the year but just after the rainy season when the rivers are full and water falls flowing will provide you with a spectacle of color as the flowers are all in full bloom.

Chiang Rai is about 190km northeast of Chiang Mai, however it is its proximity to 2 other villages that makes this city more famous. 62 km north is the village of Mae Sai and the Myanmar border, 60 km northwest is Chiang Saen on the Mekong across from Laos. The real value of Chiang Rai however is its location near the Golden Triangle region.

Thriving on the steep slopes around Chiang Rai, opium poppies was a very large industry in northern Thailand. Today however under pressure from the police and military, as well as important rural projects started by the King of Thailand’s mother, Her Royal Highness Somdej Phra Sri Nakarindra Baromraj Chonni, the growing of opium has been replaced with other crops.

Things to See & Do In Chiang Rai

Although not as abundant as it once was it is still possible to find opium poppy fields if you know where to look or who to ask. Not really a tourist attraction of Thailand travel to the surrounding hills for treks or white water rafting you may come across some of these. If you are visiting Chiang Rai in January or Feburary the opium poppies should be in full bloom, but it’s unlikely you will see anyone harvest it now.

Some wats worth visiting while travelling in the area would be Wat Phra Singh, Wat Phra Kaeo, Wat Ngam Muang and Wat Rong Khun all within the city limits of Chiang Rai. Outside the city Wat Phra That Doi Tong, in Mae Fah Luang district, and Wat Phra That Doi Wao in Mae Sai district may also be worth a trip.

Besides these two popular activities in Thailand travel most visitors are in fact interested in hill tribe treks or boat trips on the Kok River and given its close proximity to two other countries there has been an increase in day trips to the boarders.

Located on the banks of the River Nan, Phitsanulok, 390km north of Bangkok, makes an ideal base for exploring the surrounding areas of lower north Thailand. One of the oldest cities in Thailand, Phitsanulok, often shortened to Phi-Lok, is an important and historic city in northern Thailand. It has held a strong strategical and political position in Thailand’s history due to its location on the cross-road between the northern and central regions of the country. Phitsanulok is a major transportation hub in Thailand travel for the region with many tourist attractions not having direct connection with either Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

For Thai Buddhists Phi Lok is often a pilgrimage visit as it is home to the second most important Buddha image in Thailand. Only the Emerald Buddha in Wat Phra Kaew is more important. This large statue of Phra Chinnarat Buddha is the most copied image of any Buddha in Thailand and is sold across the country, no dounbt you willl see this during any Thailand travel, and often it will be the image you will buy as a reminder of your time in amazing Thailand.

Getting to Phitsanulok

The main line train between Bangkok and Chiang Mai stop if at Phitsanulok several times a day. There are direct trains from Bangkok also, these that take about 7 hours or 6 if you are on the rapid train. Buses however are more frequent and take only 6 hours from Bangkok and 5.5hrs from Chiang Mai. There is an airport outside the town that you can fly to from either Chiang Mai or Bangkok, it takes about 50mins from either location.

Things to do in Phitsanulok

Although a major stop on bus, train and flight destinations, Phitsanulok itself holds very little interest for the Thailand traveller. The main shrine of Wat Phra Sri Ratana Mahathat, or Wat Yai, houses the large, Sukhothai style, bronze Buddha statue of Phra Chinnarat. If staying in the town while exploring the surrounding areas, you could wander along the banks of the River Nan and shop for northern Thai products at the markets lining the river banks here. You could also have a meal on one of the many floating restaurants Phi Lok has to offer or pick up a snack at the night market along the River Nan.
